Home to the rich and famous, sleek and elegant Monte Carlo romantically sits on the northern shore of the Mediterranean, continuously enticing tourists to visit from around the world. Before my first visit to Monte Carlo I always wondered if the stories were true: oversized yachts owned by multimillionaires and even billionaires occupying prime harbor front positions, famous actors and business people sipping fine wines gazing out at the stunning Mediterranean, first-class shopping outlets offering the best of the best in terms of shoes, handbags, jewelry and hotels. Are all of these claims true based on my visits to Monte Carlo? Of course they are.
The Cheapest Tour in Town
Ranking as one of my favorite cities, Monte Carlo has met and even exceeded my expectations as a traveler. During my first visit to Monaco, I had neither the money nor the time to arrange a tour of the city. Instead, I was forced to improvise. After a few minutes of indecisiveness, I jumped onto a public bus and got the cheapest tour of the city possible. This maintained the weight of my wallet and allowed me to see an unbiased view of the city for the first time. Initially, I found myself staring up at the architectural splendor displayed throughout the city. I can still vividly remember weaving by the world famous Monte Carlo Casino as I peered out of the crystal clean bus windows. I contemplated testing my luck, but I decided to pass on this occasion because my attire was lackluster in comparison to the meticulously dressed patrons entering this opulent establishment. I pondered to myself, “how many famous icons from around the world have placed bets at this luxurious venue?”
